Millet Grains
Pennisetum americanum
Also known as: Bajra, Pearl millet

About Millet Grains
One of the most cultivated cereals in the world, a potential energy source for the livestock.
Nutritional value and use in livestock rations
Millet Grains is a concentrate feed and an energy source in the Pakistan Feed Library. On average millet grains contains crude protein 9.3% of dry matter, metabolisable energy 3.1 Mcal/kg, TDN 86.7% of dry matter, NDF 11.2% of dry matter.
Energy concentrates such as cereal grains and by-products raise the energy density of a ration. They are fed together with forage for fibre and with protein sources and minerals to keep the ration balanced.
Nutrient values vary with variety, growing conditions, processing and storage, so treat the averages as a guide. Send us your ration details if you would like advice on using it in a TMR.

- Calculated from lab data
SD = standard deviation DM = dry matter. Nutrients other than dry matter are expressed on a dry-matter basis. TDN = total digestible nutrients; ME, NEm, NEg, NEl and DE = metabolisable, net (maintenance / gain / lactation) and digestible energy.
